Food as Medicine. Proven.

Does the quality of our diet impact us? Can real food influence brain wellness?
One of the largest controlled trials of a single food set out to find the answer.

Big Bold Health Professional
Gold Standard Clinical Trial

A real-world test on the impact of real food

90 Days — 662 Participants — 18G Daily Dose

The key background research

This work builds on earlier research on Tartary buckwheat compounds, and a study on high polyphenol diets. Together, they pointed in the same direction.

Study 01

Tartary buckwheat and the biology of aging

Researchers studied how Tartary buckwheat compounds, including rutin, quercetin, and luteolin, may influence key biological markers tied to how the immune system ages. The findings connected real food to longevity, immune balance, and metabolic health.‡

Key Findings: 47% reduction in the rate of biological aging over 90 days among the fastest-aging participants.

Study used a concentrate of phytonutrients based around Himalayan Tartary Buckwheat, a separate formulation from HTB Activ. Exploratory pilot study. Single-arm design. Results varied across participants.¹
Study 02

A high polyphenol diet and healthier brain aging

In a clinical brain-MRI trial, participants who followed a diet high in polyphenols, including green tea, walnuts, and Mankai, experienced significantly slower brain aging, alongside improvements in blood sugar metabolism over 18 months.‡

Key Findings: ~50% reduced advancement of brain-aging over 18 months of observation.

A landmark trial measuring the cognitive outcome of a single food

18g

A randomized, double-blind, trial compared an 18 gram daily dose of HTB Activ™ against a matched placebo.

82%

At baseline, 82% of participants showed room for corrective support in attention or focus over the previous 3 months.

49

Average age of participants was 49, ranging from 21-79 years, 63% of which  were female.

662

850 enrolled initially, with 662 active participants over a 12 week (90-day) period.

One of the largest placebo-controlled trials to date on the cognitive outcomes of food.

Data analysis revealed several findings which were statistically significant compared to placebo.³

Discover what real food can do

90% of participants taking HTB Activ™ reported a meaningful shift in how they felt day to day, in relation to cognition, sleep, mood & fatigue.

Cognitive Ability +69%

People taking HTB Activ™ reported meaningful improvement in cognitive abilities—a statistically significant result. Among those who closely followed the protocol, improvement was 31% greater than the placebo group.†§

63% Better Sleep

People taking HTB Activ™ reported meaningful improvement in sleep. Those who consistently followed the protocol  experienced more improvement over placebo—a statistically significant result.†§

66% Less Fatigue

People taking HTB Activ™ experienced less fatigue. Those who consistently followed the protocol experienced more improvement over placebo—a statistically significant result.†§

31% Brighter Mood

People taking HTB Activ™ reported meaningful improvement in their mood, While not statistically significant, it is worth watching closely as the research continues.†

Cognitive Speed +20%

People taking HTB Activ™ experienced a roughly 20% faster reaction time on a cognitive test (Flanker Squared) compared to their speed at the start of the study—with no loss in accuracy.†

Beyond the Label

Most food databases track around 150 nutrients. But real food contains more than 139,000 natural compounds, and scientists have barely scratched the surface of what they do.

Researchers have a name for this gap: they call it "the dark matter of nutrition." It's a massive layer of biological information hidden inside everyday food that science is only just beginning to understand.

Polyphenols make up a significant portion of those 139,000+ compounds that  science has yet to fully understand. They sit at the center of nutrition's dark matter. Himalayan Tartary Buckwheat Sprout Powder (as HTB Activ™) is one of the most polyphenol-dense food sources, which lends itself well to this exploration.⁴

  • 139,000+ distinct chemicals in the foods we eat

  • Polyphenols make up a significant portion

  • HTB Activ™ is dense in diverse polyphenols

Nutritional power isn't found in a single nutrient. It's unlocked through the complexity of real food.

For a century, nutrition science hunted for the single magic molecule—one vitamin, one compound, one pill. But the body doesn't read food that way. Real food speaks in networks: hundreds of molecules acting together, sending signals that help program how our cells, brains, and immune systems behave.

One nutrient at a time doesn't work
Decades of nutrition research focused on single nutrients in isolation. That approach missed the point. Food is complex by design, and studying it piece by piece leaves out the bigger picture.

Plant compounds are built to work together
Polyphenols, the powerful plant compounds found in foods like berries and grains, naturally travel together through the food supply. They share the same biological origins and act on the same targets inside the body. They're designed to team up, not work alone.

Food works through a network effect
A single food touches pathways throughout the body. Food doesn’t just influence one thing; it works across multiple systems at once, like a master key that unlocks several doors simultaneously.

How polyphenols speak to the body and brain

Food works in ways science is still mapping. These proposed pathways reflect the current scientific thinking on how polyphenols may communicate with the body and influence how people feel, think, and function.*

Antioxidant

Helping neutralize the oxidative stress that wears down cells and tissues over time.*

Epigenetic

Influencing how genes are switched on or off, the way nutrients help program our biology.*

Metabolic

Supporting healthy blood sugar and steady energy, two factors closely tied to how the brain ages.*

Microbiome

Feeding the gut ecosystem that shapes immunity, mood, and the gut–brain axis.*

Immune

Helping calm and balance immune signaling, a system deeply linked to brain health.*

This is what taking food seriously looks like—not chasing a single nutrient, but harnessing the full, complex intelligence of an ancient superfood. In one of our largest trials, that complexity was noticed in the 90% of participants taking HTB Activ™ who reported meaningful positive changes in cognition, sleep, mood and fatigue.
